Lisa Johnston Hancock is an author, illustrator, and educator who aims to make books that inspire a love of the natural world. She spent her childhood looking for animals and bugs by day and stargazing by night. Her favorite constellation is Ursa Major, which inspired her to write Santiago and Great Bear. With an MFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design, she has worked as a high school art teacher and adjunct professor. She also creates online art tutorials and runs an after-school program for kids. When Lisa is not making art, she can be found playing bass guitar or relaxing outside, watching the hummingbirds and bees pollinating her garden. Originally from Alabama, she currently lives in the Los Angeles area with her family. You can find more of Lisa's work at lisajohnstonhancock.com.
