Poet BILL SHUTE lives and works in San Antonio, Texas. Since 2006 he has operated the small label and small press Kendra Steiner Editions, which has issued over 350 releases of experimental music and contemporary poetry as well as hosting music-and-poetry events in Texas, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere. Shute is the author of the poetry books POINT LOMA PURPLE and TWELVE GATES TO THE CITY: THE LABOURS OF HERCULES IN THE LONE STAR STATE as well as many chapbooks, including THE MOSQUITOES OF LA MARQUE, SATORI IN LAKE CHARLES, DEEP FOCUS and SUBTRACTION. He describes himself as an open-field poet, whose early influences were the work of Paul Blackburn, Ted Berrigan, Gertrude Stein, Larry Eigner, Diane Wakoski, 1960's Robert Creeley, and late-period William Carlos Williams. He has done poetry-and-music collaborative performances and/or recordings with such avant-garde musican-composers as Derek Rogers, Alfred 23 Harth, Marcus Rubio (aka More Eaze), and Daniel Hipolito (aka Smokey Emery), as well as organizing and co-producing a 2012 Austin performance by Jandek. His newest work is the collection SATORI IN NATCHEZ.
