Dr. Salvatore Riggio was born at home in St. Louis, Missouri in 1927. His parents were both Sicilian immigrants who came to St. Louis from separate routes: His father Silvestro came up north from New Orleans and his mother Frances came west from New York City. Dr. Riggio was an only child who attended Christian Brothers College prepatory high school and then attended the St. Louis University School of Medicine. After his internship at St. Louis County Hospital pediatric residency at St. Louis University Hospital, in 1954 he and his wife Geraldine and their newborn son Jim moved to Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert in California. He served for two years as a Captain in the U.S.A.F. They then had identical twin boys in California, Nick and John. After his tour of duty he moved back to the city of St. Louis, had a daughter Mary then moved out to the suburbs to open a private practice. After the birth of another son Richard and another daughter Maureen he eventually retired from private practice to work for the Missouri Board For The Registration of the Healing Arts. After working for the board for several years he has since retired with Gerry by his side. They now enjoy the visits of their children and five grandchildren in the same home they moved to 50 years ago.
