Scarboy (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9798822980402)

Experience the world through the eyes of an incredible German shepherd in his journey through the lives of four very different souls in culturally-torn late 1960s America.

In 1967, a young German shepherd remains as the last in his litter of six. Not as outgoing as the rest of the pack, he watches imperiously as his brothers and sisters are adopted.

Opal, the Virginia farm owner who'd bred him, cannot decide whether or not to keep this exceptional dog. Realizing her own limitations of care, she finally releases him to Radcliffe student Tory who, traveling with her boyfriend Jeremy, feels a powerful kinship with the pup.

But the kinship proves an illusion and the dog is soon abandoned to the stormy urban conflicts of the 60s.

In his tumultuous journey through the lives of a racist cop, a fatherless black boy, and an ailing musical prodigy and her politically influential father, the dog's indomitable resilience not only keeps him alive but enables him to bring extraordinary magic to these different lives.

Finally, in a moment of mortal peril for the one person who'd saved his life, the dog fulfills what it means to be 'man's best friend.'

For dog lovers, serious readers, politically engaged conservatives, women, mothers, and literary fiction readers, Scarboy promises a read of adventure, life lessons, pulled heartstrings, and the beauty of a canine relationship.
