Paul Jolis is a former US Army Green Beret officer who served in Vietnam. Raised in Paris, he left for Equatorial Africa as a young man, buying rough diamonds from local diggers, and participating in the founding of the first diamond cutting factory in Black Africa. He eventually rose to the position of Vice-President of, what was then, the world's second largest diamond firm. This career came to a sudden end when he was charged, on false allegations, with attempting to overthrow a central African government. He subsequently escaped. Jolis was awarded the Morehead-Caine scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill at the age of 16. Later, he received his masters in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, as well as his degree in law from Northwestern. He is now an attorney in Southern California. He is a brilliant orator, winning the New England debate championship at the age of 12. He is now famous for his skills in litigation. He is also a mountaineer, having summited the second highest peak in Austria at the age of 13, while losing a toe in the process.
