David Hirzel was born in Philadelphia, raised in West Virginia, and landed in northern California by way of Florida. Today he makes his living designing energy-efficient housing for the future. He writes from Sky Ranch overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Pacifica CA. Extensive research for his nonfiction narrative series on the Antarctic explorer Tom Crean led him to the historic ships at San Francisco's Hyde Street Pier where he now leads the volunteer Living History Program.
