The Secret War Against Japan, by Colonel Allison W. Ind of the United States Army, is the dramatic accounting of the principal activities of the AIB - the Allied Intelligence Bureau - a group of British, Australian, Dutch, and American clandestine services formed in June 1942 during World War II. The AIB performed roughly the same functions as the Office of Strategic Services (OSS, predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency). The AIB was under the command of Australian Colonel C.G. Roberts who reported directly to Major-General Charles A. Willoughby, General Douglas MacArthur's Chief Intelligence Officer for the South West Pacific area (SWPA). Author Ind served as Deputy Controller for the organization. Post-war, the AIB was disbanded and Ind served as a senior staff member on MacArthur's post-war occupation force in Japan. This edition features a new Preface by Steve Chadde and is illustrated with maps and photographs.
