Heathcliff discovers the way to increase his riches as he hones his poker skills, destroying
others in the process without remorse. An injury keeps Heathcliff at the home of a naval Captain
long enough for the Captain's daughter to fall in love with him. As soon as Heathcliff has
fulfilled all his obligations to his primary benefactor, he takes his gambling wins, not necessarily
legally gained, and returns to take back the heart of his young love at Wuthering Heights.
Shadows on the Heath bring Heathcliff back to the porch of the Grange just as Emily Bronte
wrote in her novel Wuthering Heights. This time the sources of his transformation are revealed.
