Carol, Nick's logngtime secretary and confidant, becomes an unwitting accomplice in Rene's theft. She leaves him, down and alone...and broken.On Shlomi's advice, Nick goes to Israel to find the answers to the meaning of his lost life, which, by this time, is not worth pushing a hotdog cart down the street in front of the courthouse.Jerry Dockett, the sometimes sober private investigator who helped Nick win the big case, tracks Rene to Spain and takes back Nick's stolen money from her, but not after some gunplay. Dockett contemplates keeping the money for himself, but in a moment of clarity he sends a cashier's check to Nick in Jerusalem for the full amount of the big case fee, less $100,000 he keeps for his efforts.Nick is nursed back to health by the grandmotherly Anna Goldberg, who found him wandering the streets of Jerusalem in a daze.
