Shine Like a Mother: 6 Steps for Thriving After C-section (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798394949234)

Let's be honest: there's not a whole lot of guidance for how to recover from a C-section. Mamas get tons of prep and care during pregnancy, and then when the baby arrives, attention quickly shifts almost entirely to that sweet newborn (and baby of course deserves amazing attention and care!) What about all the questions and worries that come up along the way while you are trying to heal from a major abdominal surgery?

If you are planning to have a C-section soon, or have had one within the last year, this guide is for you.

This handbook takes the knowledge and expertise of a rehab and maternal health occupational therapist and 2-time C-section mama and brings to you the top tips and tricks for your recovery. OTs use research-backed theories and frameworks to support people through major life transitions so that they can not only survive, but thrive in their daily lives. They have training to address physical, emotional, and psychosocial issues that impact function. Basically, their goal is to get you feeling empowered, informed, fully participating, and enjoying your life as you want and need. What bigger life transition is there than the journey into motherhood (and after a major abdominal surgery, at that!?) Information and strategies have been compiled after working with many mamas and patients who have undergone a variety of abdominal surgeries, in order to prioritize techniques to get you feeling better emotionally and physically.

You will get to learn:

• What really happens during this major surgery

• How to set realistic expectations for yourself during your recovery

• How to actually take care of your scar so that it heals better and has less pain/sensitivity

• Ergonomics and how to get your life and home set up for less pain during surgery recovery

• Recommendations for easy tools you can use to help your body heal and feel more comfortable

• How to breathe for better healing

This guide is made with love for you, mama. You deserve to know how to heal better and faster, so that you can worry less and make space to enjoy motherhood. Plus, the healthier and happier you feel, the healthier and happier your baby will feel, too!
