Hamidullah Khan (HK) Burki, iconoclast, renaissance man, commanded a flotilla attached to General Slim's 14th Army in Burma. He resigned his commission after WW II, and took off to pursue sport and journalism. From the London Olympics in 1948, to victory at the 1950 Barcelona cup, he moved on as a foreign correspondent in London, New York and Islamabad. Along the way, with his trusty Rolleiflex, he took award winning black and whites. Shoals of Empire is part of a trilogy he was working on prior to his death in 2003.
