Shout Stop telling us to read (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781917766951)

What if reading didn't have to be quiet, still, or forced? What if it could move, sing, laugh, and grow right alongside a child?

Shout STOP Telling Us to Read is a bold, funny, and heartfelt children's book created for kids who don't always fit the traditional mold of what reading is "supposed" to look like. Through the voices of Zuri, Maya, Christina, and their classmates, this story gives words to a feeling many children experience but rarely say out loud: reading shouldn't feel like a punishment.

Tired of being told to sit still and be quiet, the kids discover that reading becomes exciting when they are allowed to enjoy it in their own way. They dance with books, sing stories, turn reading into games, and let their imaginations run wild-proving that there is no single right way to read. From giggles to glitter-burping robot dragons, books come alive when joy replaces pressure.

This story celebrates creativity, movement, imagination, and emotional expression while gently encouraging reluctant readers to reconnect with books on their own terms. Without shaming or lecturing, it invites adults to rethink how literacy is introduced and reminds children that their voices, learning styles, and personalities matter.

Written by children's author, educator, and child advocate Phyllis Harrington, Shout STOP Telling Us to Read promotes positive literacy experiences, confidence, and inclusion. It is perfect for classrooms, libraries, homes, and read-aloud settings, especially for energetic, creative, or hesitant readers.

Because reading isn't just about words on a page-it's about curiosity, confidence, and discovering the joy of stories. And sometimes, the first step toward loving a book is being allowed to shout.
