This book of poems is a collaboration between a niece and aunt. Liv, the daughter of Tom, Katie's older brother by 10 years, would often request to be sent to her aunt Katie's house during her middle and high school years when she struggled with depression. Katie's house was a refuge for Liv who could find peace in Katie's wisdom, animals, and similar sense of humor and politics. The two share a kinship beyond their blood relationship and as 2 adults they share the same desire to express themselves and make the world a better place one poem at a time. Tom initiated the collaboration by persistently suggesting the two publish a book together. Liv and Katie figured they had nothing to lose but their self-esteem, so they went for it.
