Byron Edgington is a retired commercial pilot who flew more than 12,500 hours in the cockpit of twenty different kinds of helicopters. Edgington's career took him all over the world, starting with a one-year tour of combat flying in Vietnam, twenty years flying at a hospital in Iowa, many exotic, dangerous, and even a few boring flying jobs like counting power poles in the MidWest, and reporting news and traffic in several large U'S. cities. Edgington retired from aviation in 2005 while pursuing his dream job, flying air tours of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Returning to school, he earned his Bachelors in English from the Ohio State University in 2012 at age 63. Now a full time writer, Edgington was awarded The Bailey Prize for non-fiction in 2012. His recent book, The Sky Behind Me, a Memoir of Flying and Life is based on his forty year career in the air.
