The book examines the process of development within the small manufacturing enterprise sector in the Tobago economy. The field research for the study was conducted during 1997. The findings indicate that the fundamental constraints to growth and development within the sector are internal to the enterprises. On the other hand, the impact of the competitive environment particularly among the enterprises with an outward market orientation is found to lead to growth and expansion.

The Author: Colin McDonald is a citizen of Trinidad & Tobago. He received his B.Sc. in Economics and Management at the University of the West Indies, Barbados Campus, then an M.Sc. in Project Planning from the International Training Centre in Enschede, Netherlands. Ph.D. at Göttingen University, Germany, in 1999. He worked as a Planner and Project Analyst with the Public Service of Trinidad & Tobago. He also worked as a Programme Officer with a Regional Institution in several islands of the Caribbean and was involved in Small Enterprise Promotion and Evaluation.
