This is a cookbook with purpose, bringing together vibrant Middle Eastern-inspired food from Sohaila and Fat Macy's, a London social enterprise using hospitality to tackle homelessness. Packed with delicious, achievable recipes and stunning photography, it captures the flavours served in our Shoreditch restaurant and across our busy catering business.
Alongside the food runs an uplifting true story that began in a hostel kitchen and grew into a thriving restaurant, training academy and community. Through cooking, mentoring and shared meals, people gain skills, confidence and the chance to move into secure homes of their own. At its heart, this book is about connection -- and how food can create a lasting sense of home.
Nathalie Moukarzel is a chef, co-founder of Sohaila restaurant and Fat Macy's catering social enterprise, and the creative force behind its Middle Eastern-inspired cuisine. Drawing on the cooking of her Lebanese grandmother Sohaila, Nathalie combines bold flavours with a deep commitment to training and supporting people moving out of homelessness and into fulfilling work.
Meg Doherty is co-founder of Fat Macy's and leads its pioneering hospitality training and mentoring programme. She works to create pathways out of homelessness by combining professional kitchen training with long-term support, community and opportunity.
