Something Is Here (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9798951472168)

River is five years old, and something doesn't feel right.

His tummy is fluttery. His hands feel tingly. His chest feels small. And when he tries to say hi to the neighbor on the way to the car - nothing comes out.

Something is here. But what?

On the first day at his new school, River discovers that big feelings live in the body before they become words. With quiet guidance from Dad, he learns two simple tools that really work: pressing his feet into the ground to feel steady, and breathing slow to let the feeling soften. By the time River walks through the school door, he knows something important - the feeling is still there. But so is he.

Something Is Here is a warm, body-centered picture book that introduces children ages 4-7 to interoception - the ability to notice what is happening inside your body - through a story that feels true to the way young children actually experience emotion.

The book includes a Breathe With River illustrated breathing exercise, a My Body Map activity page, a Feelings Thermometer, discussion questions, and a Note for Grown-Ups with three evidence-based activities for home and classroom use.

Inspired by the CASEL Self-Management competency. Ideal for Pre-K through Grade 2 classrooms, family read-aloud, and therapeutic use.
