Sons Of Marcus Whitman (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781428657588)

Sons of Marcus Whitman is a historical fiction novel written by Bernard Molohon. The book is set in the mid-19th century and revolves around the lives of two brothers, Henry and Jacob Whitman, who are the sons of the famous missionary and pioneer, Marcus Whitman. The story takes place in the Pacific Northwest, which was then known as the Oregon Territory. The Whitman brothers are both deeply influenced by their father's legacy and the impact he had on the region. Henry, the elder brother, is a doctor who is committed to serving the local Native American tribes and helping them overcome the illnesses that plague them. Jacob, on the other hand, is a businessman who is more interested in exploiting the region's natural resources and making a profit. As the story progresses, the brothers find themselves on opposite sides of a conflict between the local tribes and the white settlers who are encroaching on their land. Henry becomes increasingly involved in the struggle for Native American rights and begins to question his brother's motives. Meanwhile, Jacob's business dealings lead him down a dangerous path, and he becomes entangled in a web of deceit and betrayal.Sons of Marcus Whitman is a gripping tale of family, loyalty, and the clash of cultures that defined the American West in the 19th century. Molohon's vivid descriptions of the landscape and the people who inhabited it bring the story to life, and his characters are complex and multi-dimensional. Overall, this is a compelling read for anyone interested in the history of the American West or the struggles between different cultures and ideologies. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
