Until this work was finished, the South Central Mennonite Conference had not done so. Melvin Gingerich, of the Mennonite General Conference Historical Committee, urged the conference to consider the preparation of a conference history.... Paul Erb (1894-1984) was born into a pioneer family in Newton, Kansas. A Mennonite educator, writer, and pastor, he served as Mission Board President of the Kansas-Nebraska Conference and as Mission Board Secretary and Assistant Moderator of the Missouri-Kansas Conference. Erb taught English and Bible for twenty-five years at Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas. He also taught at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana and at Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He served the Mennonite Church on its Commission for Christian Education, as editor of 'Gospel Herald', as Executive Secretary of the Mennonite General Conference, and as President of the Mennonite Board of Education. Other works by Erb include 'Old Testament Poetry and Prophecy', 'The Alpha and the Omega', 'Don't Park Here', 'Our Neighbors South and North', and 'Orie O. Miller'.
