Spinifex And Sand: Five Years' Pioneering And Exploration In Western Australia (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781161453669)

Spinifex and Sand is a book written by David W. Carnegie, which chronicles his experiences and explorations in Western Australia during the late 19th century. The book is a first-hand account of Carnegie's journey, as he travels through the rugged and often inhospitable terrain of the Western Australian outback. Carnegie's adventure begins in 1892 when he sets out from Coolgardie, Western Australia, with a small team of men and a pack of camels. Over the course of five years, Carnegie and his team explore vast regions of the Western Australian interior, mapping previously uncharted territory and encountering a variety of indigenous peoples along the way. The book is divided into chapters, each of which recounts a different phase of Carnegie's journey. The chapters cover topics such as the establishment of water depots, the search for gold, and the challenges of living and working in the harsh Australian outback. Throughout the book, Carnegie provides vivid descriptions of the landscape, wildlife, and people he encounters on his travels. He also includes detailed maps and sketches of the terrain, as well as photographs of the people and places he visited. Spinifex and Sand is a fascinating account of a pioneering era in Australian history, and a valuable resource for anyone interested in the exploration of Western Australia. Carnegie's writing is engaging and informative, and his insights into the challenges and rewards of exploration are both inspiring and informative. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
