Split Vision: Whiteness and the American Trauma of Separation (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9798341903371)

A groundbreaking exploration of the hidden psychological architecture of white supremacy--and how healing requires more than changing our minds. It requires reconnecting our bodies, histories, and one another.

The time has come for a book that moves beyond familiar conversations about bias and privilege. Therapist and researcher Danielle S. Rueb-Castillejo asks a more profound question: What happens when a society loses the ability to fully feel? She argues that white supremacy has shaped more than our institutions--it has shaped our nervous systems.

Drawing on her work as a therapist and researcher--and on her own experience as a multi-racial woman navigating life between whiteness and communities of color--Rueb-Castillejo argues that America's deepest racial wounds are sustained by a collective trauma of separation, a process she calls "splitting." Shaped by centuries of systemic domination and reinforced through everyday practices of denial, this splitting disconnects us from our bodies, our histories, and one another.

Rueb-Castillejo then invites us into the courageous work of integration, where honest reckoning becomes the first step toward collective repair. Healing begins not by mastering the right ideas, but by recovering our capacity to feel, connect, and remain present. Through embodied practices of awareness, presence, and relational healing, Split Vision offers a path to restore what generations of separation have fractured. This is not a call to guilt, but to wholeness--a courageous invitation to reconnect what history has taught us to keep apart.
