Prof. Bhabananda Deka was a leading Indian literary scholar and pioneer Assam economist having 115 (one hundred fifteen) books to his credit. He was also a legendary educationist and top Indian bureaucrat. Born in the Brahmaputra valley of Assam in India in a deeply religious Vaisnavite Satra or monastery during pre-independence era under British rule, his whole life was devoted to conducting extensive research on Assamese literary, cultural, ethnic, socio-political and religious and philosophical heritage, and spreading out the glory of his motherland to the outside world. The English books like Assamese Language & Literature & Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroah, Assam Economics, Industrialisation of Assam, Rural Economy in Assam, Sankardev's Kirtan Ghosa and Sreemanta Sankaradeva are prime examples of his selfless missionary zeal to promote the literature of his land. Just before his eventual death on 4th December 2006, he also completed his swan-song literary masterpiece in the shape of English prose transcreation of five century old timeless Assamese classic Kirtan Ghosa.
