State and Revolution by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin is a foundational Marxist text written in 1917 during the revolutionary ferment leading up to the Bolshevik seizure of power in Russia. Lenin articulates his vision for the role of the state in the transition to socialism and the ultimate establishment of a stateless, classless society. The book critiques existing interpretations of Marxism, particularly those of reformists, and lays out a revolutionary framework for dismantling the bourgeois state.
Lenin wrote State and Revolution while in exile, shortly before the October Revolution of 1917. The work reflects his urgent need to articulate a clear theoretical justification for the Bolsheviks' revolutionary strategy. It serves as a blueprint for the political transformation he envisioned and later attempted to implement in Soviet Russia.
