Dr. Godbold received the Bachelor of Science Degree BS, in Special Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where he also earned the Master of Education Degree M.Ed, in Educational Counseling, and the Educational Specialist ES, Certificate for Post Graduate Study beyond the M.Ed. Dr. Godbold also established Post Graduate Academic Majors in Sociology and Educational Psychology, prerequisite for the study of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree, Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, U of M. Dr. Godbold earned the Ph.D. at the U of M in Educational Counseling and Guidance with the Sociology Cognate. Dr. Godbold was a Clifford Woody Memorial Scholar, for outstanding promise in professional education, and was selected for the Leonard F. Saine Esteemed Black Alumnus Award at the University of Michigan. Dr. Godbold attained National prominence for his efforts on behalf of "inner City" Community Colleges for his leadership in the establishment of the Council on Black American Affairs CBAA, and the establishment of National Council on Black American Affairs, NCBAA. Dr. Godbold was the first African American selected for a Council seat on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Junior Colleges. Dr. Godbold has "pioneered" as the first African American in several important educational administrative positions, most notably at the Community College Level as a College Dean, President and CEO in different states, Vice Chancellor, and the first African American Chancellor of a multi-college/campus district in the state of California. Dr. Godbold has written and published extensively about the efficacy of Community College Education, especially as "second chance" educational opportunities, particularly for those who have had poor previous educational experiences, and minorities. The President's Academy selected a speech he gave at an Education Policy Conference held in Detroit, Michigan as one of the six best speeches presented that was published for AAJC membership colleges. Dr. Godbold has "shepherded" and been a mentor for many "budding" Community College Professionals of all ethnicities who have aspired for educational careers in community college administration. Dr. Godbold has been an advocate for an "Adjunct Individualized Self Paced Instructional Methodology" to benefit older students who seek educations at the Community College level, whose time management is a significant and important variable in their educational attainment.
