I have been writing screenplays professionally for three decades. The story of Esther goes back to the B.C. period of the Old Testament and tells the saga of a strong, young woman who shoulders the fate and burden of the entire Jewish nation upon her shoulders. While Esther is the story of one historical woman, Top Five is the story of two young women making history through a pageant scholarship program. The very word "pageant" generates stereotypes and stigmas. From my first-hand experience with the Miss America organization, I can tell you, the intangible benefits young women who participate in this close-knit sorority gain, are far greater than any stereotypical perceptions. Both stories deal with preconceived notions, prejudice, hatred (in its many forms), but also acceptance, love and sisterhood. These are stories I knew I had to tell in support, encouragement and inspiration for my own daughter but also, all young women.
