Strategic Disruption in the Deep Fight: Special Operations from Competition to Armed Conflict (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9798259506763)

This second volume moves the strategic-disruption debate from general competition into denied areas and large-scale combat. John P. Gomen and Brian M. Wright study how Army special operations may support multi-domain maneuver in the operational deep area. Michael J. Cariello Noblit examines how Marine Forces Special Operations Command might adapt for littoral irregular warfare and potential conflict in the Indo-Pacific.

The texts make the limits of a below-armed-conflict label especially visible. Their subjects include reconnaissance, sabotage, direct action, partner and surrogate networks, maritime access, targeting support, and attacks intended to create operational effects behind an adversary's protective systems. Competition remains part of the continuum, but the endpoint considered is explicitly armed conflict.

Gomen and Wright organize their inquiry around the Army's emerging multi-domain concept and historical cases of special operations in deep or denied areas. Their concern is not merely whether a small force can reach a target. It is whether information, access, disruption, and destruction can be integrated with a larger commander's maneuver and fires in ways that produce a usable operational advantage.

Noblit addresses a service and geographic problem. A return to peer conflict in an archipelagic theater requires MARSOC to reassess concepts, mobility, skills, authorities, relationships, and its supporting role to the joint force. Littoral irregular warfare in this account bridges campaigning, access, partner activity, disruption of adversary operations and infrastructure, and deep effects during large-scale combat.

This paired Nimble Ultra documentary edition reproduces two complete Naval Postgraduate School theses approved for public release. The source texts remain distinct from the publisher's editorial apparatus and retain their original pagination, notes, bibliographies, figures, qualifications, and government-work notices.

Editorial features include a document guide, consolidated caveats and counterpoints, the concluding afterword They Can Hear Us: Turnabout, Permission Structures, and Strategic Disruption after 2026, glossary, cross-reference concordance, source note, bibliography, subject index, printed contents, and PDF bookmarks.

These theses are public academic products, not operational orders, current target folders, or confirmation of classified capabilities. Publication does not endorse attacks on infrastructure or any unlawful military action.

Concepts evolve. Multi-Domain Operations, deep fires, force design, command relationships, service terminology, and theater plans may have changed after the 2019 and 2024 publication dates.
