Divorce attorney Lance Hanover is dead. And Private Detective Sidney Alfonso Street isn't happy about it. Who's going to pay him for the investigation he's been conducting for the attorney? The police suspect the dead man's widow, Evelyn. After all, the policeman's 'handbook of suspects' always lists the murder victim's spouse first. And since the subject of his own investigation was Mrs. Hanover, Sid Street doesn't disagree. That is, until the widow asks Sid to investigate the death of her husband and bring the killer to justice. Would a guilty spouse do that? The 1940s of Ross Macdonald and Dashiell Hammett live again, thanks to Sid Street, Private Investigator. Sidney Alfonso Street is a combination of tough-guy muscle and a sharp mind, along with a wise-guy attitude that allows him to see the humor in his investigations. Sid and his partner, Casey Reilly, will deal with it all -- blackmail, kidnapping and...murder. But don't ever call him Sidney, he hates that name.Wayne A Walter's detective-series character, Sid Street, takes us along into mystery and danger, but still makes us laugh.

Wayne A. Walter knows the Long Beach of the 1940s, because he was there. His boyhood of the '40s and '50s was spent living in the city. When he refers to a location in his Sid Street novels, it's for real. Or at least was back then. And he still returns to visit, and renew the feelings of the old city. Today, Wayne and his spouse, Carolynn, make their home in the mountains of central Arizona, surrounded by the Tonto National Forest.
