Street Justice: From the Files of the St. Louis Police Homicide Division (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798186978787)

A grieving father made a promise.

Twenty-two years later, the bodies are still falling.

When twenty-three-year-old Marcus Jackson is executed outside a North St. Louis grocery store, the motive appears obvious. Marcus has a documented gang history, and detectives quickly assume his murder is retaliation in an escalating street war.

Detective Sergeant Mick Callahan and Detective Darius Coleman are not convinced.

Marcus still had his money, jewelry, cellphone, and loaded handgun. The shooter fired only three times-and every round struck its target. Surveillance footage reveals a carefully planned ambush, a disciplined escape route, and three people inside the getaway car.

Then the detectives discover Marcus was trying to leave his past behind.

He worked construction, supported his younger sisters, cared for his ailing grandmother, and had secretly become a federal confidential informant. In the weeks before his death, Marcus warned that someone inside the investigation was leaking information.

Before Callahan and Coleman can identify the source, another man is found executed inside an abandoned warehouse.

The evidence leads them to Charles Reynolds, one of the most respected community leaders in North St. Louis. For more than two decades, Charles has repaired homes, restored baseball fields, mentored children, and fought to save a neighborhood devastated by violence.

He is also a father whose sixteen-year-old son, Ethan, was killed by a stray bullet twenty-two years earlier.

No witness came forward.

No one was arrested.

And Charles Reynolds never stopped seeking justice.

As the investigation expands, Callahan and Coleman uncover a hidden network operating beneath the community organization Charles built-a secret group that identifies suspected killers, forces confessions, and delivers the punishment the courts failed to provide.

But what began as vengeance for innocent victims has evolved into something far more dangerous.

The people dispensing justice are now protecting themselves.

Witnesses are disappearing.

Evidence is being destroyed.

And anyone who threatens to expose the truth has become a target.

To stop the killing, Callahan and Coleman must confront a question with no easy answer:

What happens when a good man loses faith in the law-and decides murder is the only justice left?

Street Justice is a gripping St. Louis homicide thriller about grief, loyalty, vigilantism, and the devastating consequences of allowing vengeance to replace the rule of law.
