Survival Guide for New Teachers (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798650654674)

Teaching is a challenging job, but for beginning teachers, it's even more demanding. A significant percentage of teachers quit within their first two years. Paul Hoffmann was nearly one of those teachers. In 'Survival Guide for New Teachers', Hoffmann talks candidly about the tough times, when he was on the verge of quitting the profession. With a down to earth approach, the Scottish based Australian draws on his personal experiences, from the good and the bad, to help drive a message of resilience and positivity for new teachers. He recalls anecdotes from his training and probationary years that will not only make you laugh, but make you coil with anger and disbelief. Hoffmann shares coping strategies throughout the book's 10 chapters, including: dealing with poor behaviour, workload management, effective use of resources, pupil engagement and mental health. The book also includes tips and advice from teachers and Headteachers from Australia and the United Kingdom. The life of a beginning teacher is stressful, but often very rewarding. There will be student and probationary teachers out there full of nervous anticipation about what lies ahead. 'Survival Guide for New Teachers' could well be their saviour.
