Mick Graham, acclaimed artist and veteran soldier of the Royal Tank Regiment, has been interested in tanks his whole life. As a young lad in the late 1960s he used to play on the obsolete Bundeswehr M47s and M48s heading down range at Hohne, Germany, where his father was stationed. He went on to fire at these same 'hard targets' as a Chieftain tank gunner in the early 1980s. Always cherishing these moments, he dabbled in painting during his military career but never felt his work was anything special. Having resumed painting seven years ago, today, Mick's stunning depictions of tanks in their natural environment with incredible attention to detail are highly sought after by veterans, serving soldiers, museums and companies such as Royal Mail.
Lavishly illustrated with a captivating selection of original artworks, this book tells the intriguing story of an ex-tankie with a unique and self-taught talent for bringing back to life the memories of service members, young and old.
Mick Graham has had a lifelong enthusiasm for military vehicles, especially main battle tanks. He joined the 4th Royal Tank Regiment in 1979, eventually becoming a gunnery instructor on Chieftain. On leaving the army in 1993, he became a forklift instructor for industrial machines. He began painting in earnest and, in 2021, took a leap of faith and pursued art full-time. His paintings are now highly sought after by museums, businesses and private individuals.
