Giovanni Campardo was born in Bergamo in 1958. He graduated in Nuclear Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1984 and later earned a degree in Physics from the University of Milan in 1997. His career has been devoted primarily to microelectronics, working in major Italian-French and U.S. multinational companies, with a special focus on Solid State Non-Volatile Memories. He has also taught and mentored at the university level. Over the years, he has developed numerous products across different technologies, consistently introducing innovations in both process and design. His work has led to more than 100 patents, and he has been recognized with three STM Exceptional Patent Awards in 2003, 2004, and 2005. He has published extensively in industry journals and at international conferences, and he is the author of several articles and books on microelectronics and memory technologies. He is married, has two children, and is the proud grandfather of Michele. Outside of work, he collects ethnic masks from around the world, paints, and practices Chinese martial arts.
Roberto Emilio Gastaldi was born in Reggio Emilia in 1953 and graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1977. He spent nearly forty years in the semiconductor industry, building deep expertise in Non-Volatile Memories and serving for many years as Director of Non-Volatile Memory Design and Advanced R&D Design in major European and U.S. multinational companies. He has contributed to the ISSCC technical committee and the European Eureka-Catrene program and received an Exceptional Patent Award in 2004. In 2009, he and his team, together with Intel Semiconductor, were honored with the EDN Innovator Team of the Year award. Author of numerous technical papers, patents, and publications in microelectronics, he has focused since 2015 on Rad-Hard memory design, consulting, and technical dissemination. Together with his friend and former colleague Gianni Campardo, he has published several books on Non-Volatile Memories and microelectronics.
