Technology of Adhesive and Wood-Based Panels covers various aspects of wood-based panels, emphasizing the technologies behind the diverse raw materials and production steps. This book covers the various aspects of the production of wood-based panels, a topic that is seldom available. It includes discussions on the influences of wood material and the wood bonding performance of wood-based materials. Read more discussions on the influence of adhesives and how they're generated on wood surfaces. Many research articles published as far back as the mid-20th century are included, emphasizing the technologies behind the different raw materials and production steps.
The structure of the book is oriented according to the production process. The first section starts with the raw materials and applications of adhesives onto the wood surface. In addition, the section continues to discuss curing or solidifying the adhesive. The second section investigates the properties of the bondline in the wood-based panels and the properties of the panels. It also describes the main aspects of bonding and describes different development topics. The third section talks about how the wood-based panel industry increases the proportion of recycling material, basic research, and interactions of the materials.
Manfred Dunky has over 40 years of experience in the chemical and wood-based panels industry as a researcher and application manager, continuing now as a consultant for this industry. He earned his doctoral degree in 1980 from the University of Leoben, Austria. He is the author of two comprehensive books, (co-)editor of several conference proceedings, and of about 50 original and extensive review papers on synthetic and natural adhesives and wood-based panel technology. During his career, he worked with synthetic wood adhesives as well as with adhesives based on natural resources and their application in panel production. Besides his industry career, he has lectured at universities for 30 years and in 2000 received his habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) for "Wood Science with special consideration of wood-based panels." He speaks regularly at international wood science conferences.
