Rev. Dr. Horace O. Russell is the Senior Pastor of the Saints Memorial Baptist Church in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.He holds a doctorate in Theology in Church History from Oxford University in the area of Missions. He has always given preaching and the developing of Christian character the highest priority in all his work and these sermons are an attempt to share some of his deepecst concerns. He recently retired as Dean of Chapel and Professor of Historical Theology from the Eastern Seminary, now Palmer and was prior to that, the President of the United College of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. He is well known for his ecumenical work with the Faith and Order Commission of the WCC and the Heritage Commission of the Baptist World Alliance. He has contributed to several academic journals, as well as to newspapers, radio and television in several capacities and is a member of the World Association of Christian Communication. His work on Jamaican Baptist witness of recenyly freed slaves to the Cameroon and his biography of Terrence Duncanson, a Jamaican Morehouse graduate who conributed much to the early development of the Canal Zone, Panama are two of his most recent books. His history of the Jamaican Baptists is in process of revision as well as his five sermons on John 3:16. He is married to Beryl Redman of Bridgwater, Somerset the former Vice Principal of the prestigious Calabar High School in Jamaica and the author of Strange Victory, the biography of an African American woman who pioneered womens work in Zaire and Jamaica. They have three children and five grandchidren.
