Kayona Ebony Brown grew up in Washington, DC, the scenic foundation for her debut novel, Tenth Letter. A natural born polymath, Kayona embraces her gifts as both an artist and a businesswoman. Invigorated by the complexities and nuances of the human experience, Kayona conceived Tenth Letter as a junior in high school and spent years developing the characters constructing their story. "I just like creating characters who feel and think and react and grow, and telling stories that intrigue and move and motivate audiences," Kayona says. When she decided to dive into her dream as an artistic entrepreneur, she established Brown'sTone to oversee her many entertainment ventures including record, TV, film, and book publishing divisions. Tenth Letter was the first product of the DC-based company and she plans to add to it with the prequel, Of Music & Men, a multimedia project that includes a scripted television show. "My priority right now is making sure that Tenth Letter, the novel, reaches everyone who needs its messages. [Then] I want to bring this vision to the big and small screens, so you can see it from every side, as it was intended. I think these stories is something we as women really need."
