The Adventures of a Maya Archaeologist: Snakes, Scorpions and Jungle Discoveries (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781066815807)

What would it be like to join an archaeological expedition deep in the Guatemalan rainforest? Readers follow Dr Diane as she uncovers hidden ruins, encounters remarkable wildlife, and discovers the secrets of the ancient Maya.

As the excavation begins, pyramids, colourful wall paintings, and mysterious symbols slowly emerge from beneath the rainforest floor. But uncovering the past is only part of the challenge. Dr Diane must also contend with jungle heat, biting insects, encounters with dangerous wildlife, and the realities of living in a remote camp.

Unlike most adventure stories, this one is based on Dr Diane's experiences during her first expedition to the Maya rainforest. It weaves together genuine discoveries, unforgettable wildlife encounters, and authentic archaeological fieldwork, immersing readers in the excitement, mystery, and adventure of discovering the ancient Maya world.

Perfect for readers aged 7-11, the book can be enjoyed as a thrilling adventure or used to support learning about the Maya civilisation, rainforests, and archaeology. Set in Guatemala, the story naturally introduces a few Spanish words and phrases, helping readers to pick up a little of the local language along the way.

The adventure continues beyond the final page through the online Adventure Portal, where readers can solve puzzles, crack codes, complete challenges, and earn certificates and badges, while unlocking exclusive content from the real expedition behind the story.

Curriculum-linked teaching resources are also available on Dr Diane's website, extending the adventure into the classroom.
