Historically, gender politics has been marked by deep-seated inequalities and the marginalization of women and other gender minorities. Movements advocating for gender equality and women's rights emerged in response to these inequalities. The feminist movement, in particular, has been instrumental in challenging and reshaping gender politics, where power, societal norms, and institutions shape and influence the roles, rights, and experiences of individuals. Today, gender politics seem to have priority over gender equality, with women's rights taking a back seat to the rights of LGBTQ+ and the intersections of gender, as advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights seek to challenge heteronormative structures and fight against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity over actual biology.
