Born and bred in Oxford, David Poole (1944-2000) studied at the University of St Andrews, and thereafter lived his adult life in the town, where he raised his family and worked as a classics teacher in nearby Dundee. In The Archer of Ceres, Inspector Malone and Detective Constable White of the Fife CID investigate the bizarre murder of a crooked accountant, in a tale that takes them from the village of Ceres in Fife to the tents of the Stewards' Enclosure at Henley Royal Regatta.

In Death of A Dundee Teacher, an earlier adventure of Malone and White, a bachelor schoolteacher is found murdered in his flat in the heart of St Andrews. Malone and White must disentangle the mysterious life of the deceased, in a story of poetry, jealousy, and beer.
