Offers a stunning visual chronicle of the art of urban transformation
New Urbanism has reshaped how professionals and communities conceptualize and communicate urban design. The movement's visual language--through hand-drawn and digital renderings, master plans, and site illustrations--has played a crucial role in engaging diverse audiences, from policymakers to residents.
The Art of the New Urbanism, Volume 1 (1980-2010) presents a visual archive of the New Urbanism movement's defining works, capturing three decades of transformative urban design. Featuring over 200 meticulously crafted illustrations, this beautifully illustrated volume highlights the artistic and technical evolution of visual storytelling in community planning, architecture, and real estate development.
Beyond their functional purpose, the images in this landmark collection stand as compelling works of art, reflecting the aspirations and principles that have guided the movement. Accompanying essays and commentaries provide in-depth insights into the techniques, processes, and impact of urban design illustration. Throughout the book, the authors highlight the role of visual storytelling in shaping walkable, sustainable communities while offering historical and cultural context on New Urbanism's impact.
Carefully curated by leading practitioners and scholars, The Art of the New Urbanism, Volume 1 (1980-2010):
A one-of-a-kind exploration of how illustrations serve as both communication tools and compelling works of art, The Art of the New Urbanism, Volume 1 (1980 - 2010) is an essential resource for architects, urban designers, city planners, and real estate developers, as well as graduate and undergraduate courses in urban design, community planning, and sustainable development.
