The Aryan Origin of the Alphabet (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025323978)

In "The Aryan Origin of the Alphabet", L.A. Waddell presents a provocative and scholarly inquiry into the roots of the world's most significant writing systems. Challenging the prevailing consensus that attributed the invention of the alphabet primarily to Semitic or Phoenician sources, Waddell argues that the script actually possesses an earlier Sumerian and Indo-European foundation. Through a detailed comparative analysis of ancient inscriptions and symbols, the author traces the evolution of phonetic signs from their pictographic origins to the refined letters used in the Roman and Greek alphabets.

This work explores the diffusion of culture and language across ancient civilizations, suggesting that the development of systematic writing was a major achievement connected to Aryan migrations. By examining archaeological evidence and philological connections, Waddell attempts to map the transition from Sumerian linear script to the phonetic characters that form the basis of modern Western literacy. "The Aryan Origin of the Alphabet" remains a fascinating historical document for readers interested in the history of linguistics, ancient archaeology, and the development of human communication. It offers a unique window into early 20th-century theories regarding the migration of ideas and the structural history of human language.
