The Backbone Dividend: Building Wealth in the Age of Digital Infrastructure (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798258848345)

The Backbone Dividend: Building Wealth in the Age of Digital Infrastructure follows a journey from curiosity to conviction in one of the most overlooked sectors of the modern economy: data infrastructure. What begins as a small, cautious investment in data center REITs evolves into a deep understanding of how the digital world is physically built on concrete, power, and connectivity. The book demystifies the "cloud," revealing it as a network of highly engineered facilities that store, process, and move data, and shows how these assets generate stable, contract-driven income while benefiting from long-term growth in global data demand.

As the story unfolds, it expands beyond data centers into the broader ecosystem-fiber networks, 5G, edge computing, and global infrastructure systems. It explores how cloud computing accelerated demand, how competition and consolidation reshaped the industry, and how risks-from energy constraints to regulation-must be understood and managed. Through market cycles and moments of crisis, the resilience of digital infrastructure becomes clear, highlighting its essential role in supporting economies and daily life. The book emphasizes that while technology trends come and go, the underlying infrastructure remains indispensable.

At its core, the book presents the "Backbone Dividend" as both a financial strategy and a mindset: investing in the foundational systems that enable the digital age. It argues for focusing on necessity over hype, income over speculation, and long-term compounding over short-term gains. By shifting perspective from surface-level innovation to the infrastructure beneath it, the reader learns how to participate in the growth of the digital economy in a more stable, scalable, and sustainable way-owning not just the future's possibilities, but the backbone that makes them possible.
