The Backpack Goblins: A Story about Meltdowns, Big Feelings, and Too Much (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798349465871)

The Backpack Goblins: A Story About Meltdowns, Big Feelings, and Too Much is a magical, child-centered picture book about emotional overwhelm, sensory overload, and the invisible stressors that can build up during a child's day.

Ben has a backpack no one else can see. At first, it feels light. But then the Backpack Goblins arrive. Prickle packs scratchy socks. Clang packs loud sounds. Glare packs buzzy lights. Crumb packs food worries. Stomp packs hurry and rushing. Switch packs changed plans. And Much, the busy little leader, thinks he is helping by collecting every hard thing and tucking it away.

By the time Ben reaches school, his invisible backpack is getting heavier. When the day becomes too loud, too bright, too rushed, and too different from what he expected, Ben's backpack finally bursts.

Through gentle fantasy, this story helps children understand that meltdowns are not bad behavior. They can happen when a child has carried too much for too long. With the help of kind Ms. Juniper, Ben learns to notice what is in his backpack, name what feels hard, ask for quiet, make big things smaller, and get help before he bursts.

Warm, whimsical, and validating, The Backpack Goblins is ideal for children ages 5-10, especially children who experience sensory overwhelm, anxiety, autism-related meltdowns, ADHD overwhelm, school stress, or big feelings that are hard to explain. It is also a helpful read-aloud for parents, teachers, counselors, therapists, occupational therapists, and classrooms learning about emotional regulation, empathy, and invisible needs.

This book includes child-friendly coping language, discussion questions, an activity page, and a grown-up note to support meaningful conversations after the story.
