The Balkan Drug Route: Daut Kadriovski and the Rise of the Albanian Mafia (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798197589866)

In the shadows of Cold War Europe, a new criminal empire was quietly taking shape.

From the small town of Gostivar in the Balkans to the streets of Zurich, The Balkan Drug Route traces the rise of Daut Kadriovski and the emergence of the Albanian mafia as one of Europe's most powerful underworld networks. What began as migrant survival in a fractured Yugoslavia evolved into a sophisticated transnational system built on loyalty, secrecy, violence, and opportunity.

Against the backdrop of heroin trafficking, collapsing borders, and Europe's growing drug markets, this book explores how Albanian criminal organizations transformed from isolated family clans into a global force. Through vivid storytelling and historical investigation, Vittorio Mancini uncovers the architecture behind the Balkan drug corridor-the routes, alliances, codes of honor, and silent rules that allowed an underground empire to flourish beyond the reach of governments.

But this is more than a story about crime.

It is a portrait of displacement, ambition, identity, and power in a rapidly changing Europe. From the infamous Needle Park of Zurich to the hidden networks stretching across the continent, The Balkan Drug Route reveals how organized crime adapts to political chaos and economic desperation.

Sharp, atmospheric, and deeply researched, this book offers a gripping look into the origins of the modern Albanian mafia and the system that reshaped Europe's criminal underworld forever.
