The Battle of Grand Coteau remains one of the greatest sources of pride for M騁is peoples in Western Canada. On that day, July 13, 1851, a handful of 80 proud and daring M騁is fighters came up against 2,000 intrepid Sioux warriors. The latter, absolute Masters of the Prairie, had decided to prohibit the M騁is from hunting bison, which was essential to the very survival of this French-speaking people.
