xPeople are born with a diverse sense of music and it is not uncommon that while an emotional individual shivers with excitement while listening to beloved music, someone next to him feels nothing and the sound passes through his mind unnoticed. However, alongside ordinary music lovers who enjoy music only by listening to it, among the musicians there are those who are able to interpret it in their own way and, above all, some lucky people, enriched with a sublime gift to compose.
If we try to understand with more or less success the achievements and values of the music composed or performed by a gifted individual, it is necessary to take into consideration the extra-musical events, in the light of the circumstances, especially of the way how he/she spent his/her childhood and where he/she grew up.
This is what I had in mind writing these lines, overwhelmed by the thought that in a difficult and adversity-ridden historical period during and after the World War II, three boys with a passion for music grew up in Liverpool. All three are of Irish descent and the youngest, George Harrison, would once say as a famous man that in England at that time it was hard to get sugar cubes, not to mention a gramophone record.
In the first chapters the reader will learn, getting acquainted with the events of their early childhood which shaped them as personalities, how a musically gifted boy, John Lennon, met on the bus on the way to school another guy, Paul McCartney, above average gifted, who knew the third, slightly younger one, above mentioned Harrison. McCartney was fascinated by the fact that they hardly talked about anything else anymore except guitar and music. It also happened that although they weren't of the same generation fate brought them together; they started playing together and even composing music.
They were to be joined by a fourth lad, Ringo Starr, who was gifted at playing the drums and prevented by his poor health from attending school regularly; this is how the greatest and most influential band in the history of pop and rock music was born - the Beatles. And everything they experienced growing up on the cobbled rain-washed streets of Liverpool will be reflected in the divinely beautiful music they gave us.
As they created music, despite their personal differences there was a certain invisible harmony that happily united them; best of all, an invisible harmony is stronger than a visible one.
It could have been, God forbid, that they would never meet or that they would remain unknown, unrealized individuals, whose unusual musical gifts would be admired only by friends and cousins, to whom they would play and sing at family celebrations. But, fortunately providence intervened, exactly what had to happen happened, which I try to describe in the following chapters.
Listening to their music for half a century, studying and trying to find out about their lives, interesting and full of events like in the most exciting novel, I took care of writing a story on them, with the intention of it taking the expected form and following, as much as possible, the models according to which such works are written.
Nevertheless, the estimated reader shouldn't be surprised if it turns out, as often is the case that this story in becoming also feeds on the truth more than it respects it.
Simply, at some point I felt the need to present how as a boy ten years younger than John Lennon and Ringo Starr in early sixties of the 20th century I have discovered and experienced their music in Serbia in a social setting where no one I knew spoke English.
Until we started to learn English just because of the Beatles it would have been difficult to understand what they sang, yet their music uplifted us and enriched to such an extent that it also marked our childhood in a country as different as in a miraculous way spiritually close to theirs in which they created the music they so generously gave to us.
