Joe Stewart was born in Boyd County in eastern Kentucky. Growing up with access to the woods and hills, he became proficient with revolvers. He did this in spite of being born legally blind. A graduate of Marshall University in nearby Huntington, West Virginia, he taught school for a short time before becoming a chemist for the State of Kentucky. While working at the laboratory, he obtained a Master's degree from Kentucky State University. Joe retired in 1994. He still resides in Frankfort with Linda, his wife of fifty years. Joe and Linda chose to stay in the Capital City to be close to their children and grandchildren. Joe spends his time shooting, building furniture, rock n' roll dancing, and writing.
