He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design (Columbus, Ohio) and both masters and Ph.D. degrees from Florida State University in art education. Dr. Sheppard has been married to Sarah Rivers Sheppard for thirty-three years. They have one adult daughter, Donarah.
