Don O'Hearn is a retired civil engineer who has worked on major, award-winning construction projects that have become household names around the world. Upon graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in civil engineering, he worked on the engineering and construction of Washington, DC's landmark Theodore Roosevelt Bridge across the Potomac River, and the world-renown Washington DC Metro system, where he served as Director of Program Control. During the Viet Nam war, he was a civilian construction engineer for various port, airport, roadway, and hospital projects. He also worked on a bridge over the Danang River and later, on the landmark Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay, Florida. He led the New Orleans streetcar restoration, the world's oldest operating streetcar line. He designed a section of Denver's Light Rail system, and directed engineering on the Kuala Lumpur Light Rail system in Malaysia. He managed the design, manufacture, construction and testing of mechanical and electrical equipment, including the rail vehicles for the Baltimore, Maryland Light Rail system. Along the way, he presented technical papers to national and international Engineering Societies. He authored a chapter in the highly-respected Field Engineer's Handbook, a staple in the engineering industry. He also served nine years in the US Army Reserve as a Corps of Engineers officer, rising to the rank of Captain. When he's not writing or serving as trustee for a prominent local hospital, he enjoys doing crossword puzzles and watching his grandchildren play soccer. He and his wife currently reside in Florida.
