She was educated at Colombia University, New York, and the University of London, and received a doctorate in archae- ology at the Sorbonne, Paris.She worked for UNESCO for a number of years and establi- shed, directed and taught at the postgradu- ate institute of Archaeology in Jerusalem from 1991 to 1995.
