The City Of The Anti-Christ: Babylon In Chaldea (1917) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781437283846)

The City of the Anti-Christ: Babylon in Chaldea is a historical and archaeological account of the ancient city of Babylon, written by Richard Hayes McCartney and published in 1917. The book explores the history, culture, and mythology of Babylon, from its earliest days as a small settlement to its rise as a powerful empire under the rule of Hammurabi and beyond. McCartney delves into the city's religious practices, including the worship of the goddess Ishtar and the cult of Marduk. He also examines the city's famous Hanging Gardens, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and explores the engineering feats required to build such a structure. Throughout the book, McCartney describes the various conquerors who sought to control Babylon, including the Assyrians, Persians, and Macedonians. He also examines the city's decline and eventual abandonment, as well as its rediscovery by archaeologists in the 19th and 20th centuries. The City of the Anti-Christ: Babylon in Chaldea is a comprehensive and detailed account of one of the most fascinating and influential cities in human history. It is a must-read for anyone interested in ancient civilizations, archaeology, or the history of the Middle East. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
