David Calder, MD, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A & M University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He interned at San Joaquin General Hospital near Stockton, California, where he served his internal medicine residency, achieving Chief Resident in the third year. Dr. Calder was awarded a Diabetes and Metabolism fellowship at the University of Oregon Medical School Hospitals and Clinics in Portland, Oregon. He practiced diabetes and internal medicine in Eugene, Oregon, for thirty-five plus years. There, he was the cofounder of the Lane County Diabetes Association and the Director of the Diabetes Wellness Center, and served as a diabetes consultant for the Oregon Research Institute. Then in 1996 he and his associates, Byron Musa MD and Jane Farmer MD, and the Diabetes Wellness Center staff joined PeaceHealth Medical Group in Eugene Oregon as part of the Diabetes Endocrine and Metabolism Service. As a physician in this group he, along with John Bagdade MD, was instrumental in launching the Diabetes Wellness Assessment Program (DWAP) in PeaceHealth Clinics in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.
